Ka'u is a former sugar cane region that has switched to growing coffee beans. The location is just outside of the Kona DOP (Designation of Production) on the Big Island.
This newer coffee is getting some of the worlds highest cupping scores.
Coffee Review gave it 94 points for 2021, which is pretty amazing!
The Yellow Bourbon varietal planted in Ka'u, with abundant rainfall and constant 80+ degree temperatures produces huge cherries, which in turn yield some of the biggest coffee beans available.
